Asociația OvidiuRo (OvR) announced the passage of the Government Decision approving the secondary legislation for Law 248/2015 regarding “preschool participation stimulation for destitute families and distribution procedure for the social coupon incentives”. The secondary legislation underwent the required 10-day public consultation procedure from 5-14 January and the program will officially start on 15 February 2016 – the first day of the second semester.

President signs landmark legislation encouraging early education for all

28 October.  President Klaus Iohannis signed the bill that will finance a national program to encourage impoverished parents of 3-5 year old children to send their children to grădiniță every day. Based on OvidiuRo’s highly successful Fiecare Copil in Gradinita model, parents living under the poverty line throughout Romania will receive food coupons worth 11 € per month if their child attends preschool every day. The Minister of Labor,  the Norwegian Ambassador and a cavalcade of other officials paid a not-quite-surprise visit to the Fiecare Copil in Gradinita program in Drăgăeşti-Pământeni. But I loved the “foreignness” of Romania, “Europe with an edge”, as a friend of mine called it. I immediately got interested in the little children I saw begging on the street in Bacău and getting them into school became the focus of my volunteer work.

City hall hires its first health mediator

Eight months later , Nicoleta from Intorsura Buzaului is the first one to be employed by a local community. We hope that starting January 2014 Gabriela from Hetea will also be hired.

Nicoleta is 22 and the mother of a three year old girl. She is the only female from her village of Floroaia Mica, who had the educational qualification (10th grade ) required of health mediators.
