Raiffeisen Bank and OvidiuRo collaborate in an Experiment in Volunteerism

Fiecare Copil in Gradinita has been implemented in Budila since 2012 and has had a major impact on registering and daily attendance rates among children in preschool. Since the beginning of the program, 3 new groups have been added and 2 new teachers have been employed. There are 110 children in Budila benefiting of Fiecare Copil in Gradinita program thanks to Raiffeisen Bank.

Furniture and Toys for the Children in Araci Kindergarten

181 extremely impoverished children from Valcele comuna (Araci and Hetea villages), Covasna county, benefit of early education through Fiecare Copil în Grădiniță program. This week, the Araci Kindergarten was equipped with furniture and toys, and the families received clothes and shoes from Never Give Up organization. 20 German donors came to personally meet the children and their parents. The event was also attended by Consul Mrs. Ramona Chiriac from the Romanian General Consulate in Munich.

“They probably wouldn’t be in kindergarten right now if their parents hadn’t been supported, morally and financially. The help for the poor families of Buhusi, didn’t come from the authorities, but from OvidiuRo and its supporters. Each month, parents get a food coupon worth 50 lei, if the children attend kindergarten every day. Right now, there are over 1,300 children nationally in “Fiecare Copil in Gradinita”.”

The poorest children from 17 communities benefitted from medical assistance through the Fiecare Copil in Gradinita program

An important reason for the poor children’s low attendance rate in kindergarten are health problems. OvidiuRo, with the support of GSK Romania, is currently at the mid-term of implementing the „Together for a better health” program-as part of the Fiecare Copil in Gradinita program (Every child in kindergarten). The grant from GSK has made it possible to develop local projects that focused on periodic health checks, mandatory vaccinations, purchase medicines, and running health education and hygiene programs with the children and their parents.

50 children from Araci Village, Covasna County are having fun and learning interesting things within the Atelierele de Vara Sotron, organized by Asociatia OvidiuRo, with the support of the GlaxoSmithKline company.
For about 2 weeks, the children have learned a lot of new things about the human body, how important it is to eat healthy and to practice physical exercises with regularity.

1500 children learn to take care of themselves and our planet during summer School Preparation programs

The children embark on a 13-day trip and learn about their body, discover the benefits of healthy food and the importance of playing sports. They recap numbers and letters through writing exercises and applications play games and explore the surroundings in order to get ready for success in school. During this journey, the teachers serve as guides and the workbook “Good morning, children!” becomes the children’s best companion. Kids are encouraged to ask questions and find answers, to explore and discover, to be creative and act as team players.

This year, KeepCalling team in Romania chose to transfer 2% of their income tax to several national wide NGOs. One of the top preferences employees decided to redirect their tax towards was OvidiuRo.

The initiative taken by KeepCalling employees is part of a complex program aiming to support NGOs that bring real value and generous benefits, regarding formal or informal education, environmental protection, health care or sports. The involvement of the company and its members in social and educational actions is closely bound to KeepCalling’s motto: “Give something back to the community.”

1. Mrs. Hawke, we’ve first met eight years ago, when you had just moved to Bucharest and started working with children and their mothers. How has your mission evolved in the meantime? Did it get easier?

Eleven years ago, when Maria Gheorghiu and I started an education program for child beggars in Bacau, we worked with kids of all ages. When we added the Bucharest programs in 2004, we also worked with all ages, including the creation of a Second Chance program at School 141 in Sector 5. But we discovered over time that the older kids usually didn’t stay in school more than a year or two. However, across the board, the results for their younger siblings was much better.

1196 of the 1400 severely impoverished children in OvR’s program qualified for food coupons because they attended preschool every day. OvidiuRo gives 12 euros worth of coupons per month to encourage poor parents to send their children to preschool and kindergarten regularly. Thus, €14,352 worth of food was provided to needy families in March – thanks to OvR’s donors.
