April, the Preschool Law info package month

This month, 15,000 Fiecare Copil în Grădiniță desk calendars have reached the local teams involved in the implementation of the Preschool Law (Law. 248/2015)*. Social workers, mayors and principals across the country can now rely on a useful instrument for following and meeting their legal attributions and deadlines.

These desk calendars mean to support local teams in maximizing the impact of the national program encouraging poor children to attend kindergarten every-day. The desk calendar starts with the month of April, precisely because this is when local teams start recruiting their community’s hard-to-reach children for grădiniță! This is the T0 moment for ensuring that a community’s most marginalized children have a chance to education – through enrollment and informing parents on the importance of early education.

This is precisely why the info package also includes an instrument addressed to parents in disadvantaged communities, current or potential beneficiaries of The Preschool Law – a wall calendar designed by OvidiuRo to encourage poor parents to spend time with their kids and read with them as much as possible from illustrated books. This “reminder-calendar” will reach parents in over 200 poor communities where OvidiuRo held read-aloud sessions and distributed books as part of The Fiecare Copil în Grădiniță Summer Caravan (July-August 2016) – link or the year-long ‘Poftă de Carte’ Read-Aloud Caravan link.

A complete info package will also reach the county authorities – their support being essential in bringing Fiecare Copil în Grădiniță accross the entire country.

*In 2015, The Fiecare Copil în Grădiniță Law (248/2015) was passed by the Romanian Parliament, with an overwhelming majority. It gives poor families the opportunity to receive € 11 per month in food coupons if they bring their 3-to-5-year-old children to grădiniță every day. The law reflects the government’s recognition that early education is crucial for Romania’s most disadvantaged children if they are to have a chance to succeed in school – and thus to work their way out of multi-generational poverty.calendar FCG 2017-2018.compressed
