Family support

Hunger, poor health, distance from school, family dysfunction, and lack of appropriate clothing and school supplies are major impediments to learning. Offering support to families, both economic and social, is critical to the academic success of their children. Our services include:

  • Job counseling for parents
  • Family counseling for children and parents
  • Emergency aid
  • Medical check-ups, correction of vision and hearing problems, medical assistance
  • Parent-teacher meetings to help parents understand their children education
  • Nutritious snacks and lunches for children
  • Assistance in obtaining identity documents
  • School attendance monitoring
  • School supplies, including uniforms, book bags, and notebooks
  • Hygiene kits

Pay It Forward is Ovidiu Rom’s scholarship program for children coming from institutions and severely impoverished families to make it possible for them to graduate from high school and university. In 2009 the scholarship program was in honor of Narcisa Cumpana, one of the women in our first 2001 Mothers Program. Narcisa graduated from college in 2009 and is now a qualified teacher teaching kindergarten in Bacau.
Nineteen students from Castelu, Buhusi and Bacau and other locations benefit from this mentoring and financial aid program.

helps schools and communities successfully integrate impoverished children into the education system at an early age.

Fiecare Copil in Scoala (“Every Child in School”) is a national initiative to enroll every child in kindergarten by the age of five and see them advance successfully through high school graduation.

Our methodology encompasses neighbourhood kindergarten and school registration drives, teacher training, summer and after-school programs, family counseling and participation and incentives to parents for children’s attendance and achievement.
